Aciphex General Information

Aciphex is a drug which reduces the total amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Technically it is known as Rabeprazole.

Aciphex uses

Aciphex is used to counter the symptoms of gastroesophagael reflux disease or what is known as a GERD. Excessive acid formation illness such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Erosion of the esophagus can also be healed at a faster rate using Aciphex. Antibiotics along with Aciphex are also used to prevent gastric ulcer caused by infection too.

How to take Aciphex?

Aciphex is only to be used as prescribed by your doctor. Aciphex is not to be used in larger amounts than the prescribed ones. Aciphex is also not to be used for any longer period than the routine prescribed. The directions on your prescription are to be followed very strictly.
The usual course of Aciphex is about 4 to 8 weeks. A second period may be advised if longer healing periods are necessary. Aciphex is to be taken orally using a full glass of water. It may be taken with food or without it.
Aciphex tablet is to be taken as a whole. The Aciphex tablet dissolves automatically with a fixed rate so crushing or chewing this tablet may affect the whole function of the tablet. This is because it may different in the amount of Aciphex released at the certain stages it is really based for. Breaking the tablet is also not advisable because it renders the amount of drug in your body which may cause uncertain effects.

Aciphex Warnings

Aciphex should not be used if the patient is allergic to Rabeprazole. Some conditions are treated with the use of other drugs. To gain the full advantage of Aciphex use all of the medication prescribed. Do not change your dosage or the formula all by yourself. Always consult it with your doctor first. Inform your doctor of any liver disease before taking Aciphex. Dose adjustment may be done in that case or you might need to take some tests before getting this prescribed.

Aciphex Missed Dose

If by any means the patient misses his or her dosage then it should be taken immediately. If the next due dose is close then skip the missed dose. Extra medicine should not be used to cover up any missed dose of Aciphex. If the dose consists of two or more tablets combined then other tablets should also not be taken if the next due dose is near.

Aciphex side effects

Seek immediate medical attention if you face difficulty in breathing and swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat. You might also face less serious effects like headache, an upset stomach, insomnia or rashes.

Aciphex Storage Advice

Aciphex is to be stored away from sunlight and humidity. Moderate temperature is perfect for the storage of Aciphex. Moderate temp: 20 to 25o C.

Aciphex Overdose

Immediate medical attention should be sought if the patient over doses Aciphex. Overdosing can be found out if patient takes more than the prescribed dosage or if Aciphex is taken for a longer period than that prescribed.
The symptoms of an overdose of Aciphex are not known.
