Albenza is an anthelmintic drug. It is used to fight off infections caused by worms.
It is also known as Albendazole in technical terminology.
Albenza Uses
Albenza is used to treat patients with infections. Being an Anthelmintic drug it is used to treat tape worm infections. Sensitive parasites like tape worms are killed by this drug. It works by preventing sugar absorption by the worms which weakens the worm and kills it. Usually the Hydatid disease is treated using this drug. Nervous infections caused by pork tapeworms are also cured by this.
How to take Albenza?
Albenza is to be taken only as prescribed by the doctor. It is not to be taken in doses larger than the prescribed dose. It is not to be taken along with medicines of ones own choice. Contact your doctor if other medications might react with taking Albenza with them.
It is to be taken with food by mouth. Oral Albenza is also available for intake outside US. In the US Albenza is available in tablet form. It is to be taken with a whole glass of water. The tablet might be crushed or chewed but only with little water.

Warnings
Albenza should not be taken if the patient is or has a history of allergy towards Albenza and Benzimidazoles. Tests may be carried to confirm allergy to these chemicals.
There are many conditions which may hamper or get hampered by the use of Albenza. The negative side effects on these confitions might be promoted by the use of Albenza. If you are in the period of pregnancy or do plan to get plan during the course of the drug then consult with your doctor. If you are taking any prescribed or unprescribed medicine then tell your doctor about all of them so that the ingredients of your drugs are confirmed. If you face allergies to any medicine or food then tell your doctor about all of these. Conditions with liver diseases, eye problems, bone marrow problems and low cell blood count problems should be told about to the doctor immediately.
If you are a pregnant woman or a woman going to be pregnant then get all the proper tests before the start of an Albenza dose. If you are pregnant do not use Albenza as it may cause harm to the fetus. Avoid pregnancy during the course and you ahould wait at least 1 month before becoming pregnant. Lab tests might also be used to check with your body and the side effects of Albenza.
Albenza also causes dizziness in patients. The effect is promoted by the use of alcohol or other medicines which cause sleepness. Do not drive while you are taking Albenza as it may cause accidents.
Apart from conditions the use of Albenza might also interact with the medicines used. Especially with the use of Cimitidine or praziquantel because these medicines encourage the side effects of Albenza. If the patient is using any of the above drugs then the doctor should be informed about the usage and dose instructions you are following.
Albenza Missed dose
If a dose is missed then take the dose immediately. If the next due dose's time is near then skip the missed dose and continue with your schedule. DO not take two doses together. If more than two doses are missed then consult your doctor.
Albenza Side Effects
Side effects are caused by all medications. Many people might feel minor or no side effects at all. If you are feeling nausea, stomach pain and vomiting after using Albenza then contact your doctor immediately and inform him abou the side effects. Allergic reactions might be caused such as rashes, dark urine, fever, headache and dizziness.

Proper storage of Albenza
Albenza is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Albenza away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Albenza out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Albenza Overdose
Contact you nearest poison centre if an overdose is suspected. Seek immediate medical help if you feel that the dose has increased than the prescribed amount.
