What is Allegra D?
Allegra D is a drug containing fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine.
It is a variant of the fexofenadine drug Allegra.
Uses
Allegra D is used to reduce histamine in the body. This is done by the Antihistamine in Allegra D. The pseudoephedrine is Allegra D shrinks blood via its decongestant nature. Dilated blood vessels are treated using this which causes nasal congestion. Allegra D is used to treat patients with cough, runny nose, watery eyes, skin rash and other symptoms of common cold and allergies.
You might be prescribed Allegra D for uses other than those listed above. It may also be given along with other medicines for some other disease too. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about the uses of Allegra D.
Warnings
Always consult a doctor before providing a child with Allegra D. Improper use of cold and cough medicines can also lead to the death in very young children. Do not use any other medicine from a foreign country for cold. If you take a lot of medication at once then you might accidentally use too much of a certain drug.
If you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 2 weeks then avoid the use of Allegra D. life threatening side effects can occur if you use a cold medicine before the previous drug has cleared from the body.
Allegra D might impair your thinking skills and reaction time. Do not do anything that requires you to be alert and awake. Using Alcohol side by side can also increase these side effects.
If you have any kidney disease or a history of it then inform your doctor about it. Also remember to inform your doctor about diabetes, heart disease, urination problems or a thyroid disorder. You might need to get some tests done or your dosage might be adjusted accordingly.
How should I take Allegra D?
Allegra D should only be used according to the prescribed way. Do not take Allegra D for a longer time than the given course. Allegra D is not to be used in bigger amounts than the prescribed amount.
Cold medicine is only to be used till the symptoms clear up. Take Allegra D as a whole with a glass full of water. Do not crush, chew or break an Allegra D extended-release tablet. This is because the tablet automatically releases specific amounts of the drug at required places. Crushing this alters the amount of drug released at the stages.
Inform your doctor about Allegra D if you have been prescribed some sort of surgery.
Allegra D side effects
Immediate medical attention should be sought if the patient feels difficulty in breathing and is facing swelling of throat, tongue and face. If such conditions are being noted then call your doctor immediately.
Less serious effects of Allegra D include:
- Blurred vision;
- Nausea, stomach pain, constipation;
- Warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin;
- Skin rash or itching;
- Dizziness, drowsiness or
- Problems with memory or concentration
The patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Allegra-D then contact your doctor immediately.
Proper storage of Allegra-D
Allegra-D is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Allegra-D away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Allegra-D out of the reach of children and away from pets.

What happens if I miss a dose?
If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
