What is Allegra?

Allegra is an antihistamine drug that reduces histamine in the body.
Another name for Allegra is fexofenadine in the medical terminology.

Uses

Allegra is used to decrease the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine produces the symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes and runny nose.
Seasonal allergies like fever are also treated using Allegra. This is used both in adults and children.
Allegra can also be used to treat skin itching and hives. These both are caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Warnings

If your doctor prescribes you Allegra remember to inform him about any allergies you have to any drugs or if you have a history of them. If you have any kind of kidney diseases then inform your doctor at the earliest.
Allegra absorption becomes difficult with the intake of fruit juice and certain antacids. Do not take vitamins and antacids along with Allegra. Contact your doctor to ensure which food and chemicals you can take along with Allegra.
Other drugs might also affect Allegra and may hamper or get hampered by Allegra. Inform your doctor about all the drugs you have been prescribed from other sources. This also includes vitamins, minerals and herbal medications.
It is not known if Allegra may cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you plan to get pregnant during the course. It is also not known that if Allegra passes into breast milk or not.

How should I take Allegra?

Allegra should only be used according to the prescribed way. Do not take Allegra for a longer time than the given course. Allegra is not to be used in bigger amounts than the prescribed amount.
Allegra is to be taken as a whole with a full glass of water. Any other type of liquid with Allegra is not advisable. The oral suspension for children should be shaken well before use. TO ensure correct dosage the oral suspension should be measured properly using a marked spoon or cup. Regular spoon should not be used in measuring the suspension.
Swallowing should not be done and the tablet should be allowed to dissolve in the patient's mouth.
The tablet should be taken without food.

What happens if I overdose?

Emergency medical attention should be sought if the patient takes too much of this medicine. Overdose can be figured out by a dry mouth, dizziness or drowsiness.

Allegra side effects

Immediate action should be taken if the patient has difficulty in breathing. Along with that swelling of the face, throat and tongue is also one of the side effects.
Less serious Allegra side effects include:

• Nausea;
• Upset Stomach;
• Drowsiness;
• Headache or
• Muscle Pain

The patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Allegra then contact your doctor immediately.

Proper storage of Allegra

Allegra is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Allegra away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Allegra out of the reach of children and away from pets.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
