What is Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin is a drug and comes under the penciling group if drugs. It fights off bacteria in the patient's body.
Uses
Amoxicillin is used to treat many bacteria infections. These may include ear infections, pneumonia, bladder infections, and gonorrhea and salmonella infection. Amoxicillin is also used along with antibiotics to cure stomach ulcerscaused by the Helicobacter infection. This combination also is added with a stomach acid reducer for ulcers too.
You might be prescribed Amoxicillin for uses other than those listed above. It may also be given along with other medicines for some other disease too. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about the uses of Amoxicillin.
Warnings
Amoxicillin is not to be used if the patient is allergic to penciling drugs or Amoxicillin.
Before using Amoxicillin inform your doctor of any allergy to cephalosporin drugs. If you are facing a liver disease or Asthma inform your doctor about these immediately. This also applies if you have a history of these diseases.
Amoxicillin weakens the effect of birth control pills and makes these less effective so when under a corse of Amoxicillin the chances of an unplanned pregnancy are high. Amoxicillin is to be used for the whole period advised by the doctor. Leaving this without informing the doctor is not advisable. Viral infections like flu and cold are not treated using Amoxicillin. Do not share this medication with another person even when they are sharing the same symptoms as you.
Antibiotic medication might lead to Diarrhea. If you are facing Diarrhea that is watery or includes blood in it then immediately contact your doctor. Do not start using drugs to stop Diarrhea unless prescribed by your doctor.
How should I take Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin should only be used according to the prescribed way. Do not take Amoxicillin for a longer time than the given course. Amoxicillin is not to be used in bigger amounts than the prescribed amount.
If you are using any other drug along with Amoxicillin then take all of your medication as prescribed. Be sure to follow the schedule strictly. DO not change your dosage or schedule without approval from your doctor.
Amoxicillin can be taken with or without food as the patient feels comfortable with.
The oral suspension should be shaken well before use. To ensure that the prescribed amount is taken use a measuring spoon or a marked cup to measure the total amount. Do not use a regular spoon to measure the suspension.
The oral suspension can also be mixed with water, milk, and juice or baby formula. Drink all of thee prepared mixture at once. Using the suspension later is not advised.
The tablet version of the drug is to be swallowed as a whole with a glass full of water.
What happens if I overdose?
Get emergency medical help if the patient takes in too much of this drug.
Over dosage can be found out by sudden changes of behavior, confusion, urination decrease and skin rashes.
Amoxicillin side effects
Immediate medical attention should be sought if the patient feels difficulty in breathing and is facing swelling of throat, tongue and face. If such conditions are being noted then call your doctor immediately.
Less serious effects of Amoxicillin include:
- Blurred vision;
- Nausea, stomach pain, constipation;
- Warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin;
- Skin rash or itching;
- Dizziness, drowsiness or
- Problems with memory or concentration.
The patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Amoxicillin then contact your doctor immediately.
Proper storage of Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Amoxicillin away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Amoxicillin out of the reach of children and away from pets.

What happens if I miss a dose?
If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
