What is Antivert?
Antivert is a drug classified under the antihistamine group of drugs.
Uses
Antivert being an antihistamine blocks the effects of histamine on your body.
It is used to treat patients suffering from nausea, vomiting and dizziness when the root cause is motion sickness. Many symptoms of vertigo are also treated using Antivert.
You might be prescribed Antivert for uses other than those listed above. It may also be given along with other medicines for some other disease too. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about the uses of Antivert.
Important information about Antivert
Antivert is not to be used if the patient is allergic to Meclizine chemical. Inform your doctor about any breathing disorder, urination problems, glaucoma and an enlarged prostate. Antivert is not to be used for children younger than 12 years old.
Antivert may cause slow reactions and thinking. Do not drive or involve in any activity which require you to stay active and alert when you are taking Anivert. Avoid the intake of alcohol as it increases these side effects.
Cold medicine and relaxant pills can increase in the sleepiness caused by Antivert. Do not take these medicines along with Antivert.
It is unharmful to an unborn baby. But do inform your doctor about being pregnant or a planned pregnancy during usage of this pill. It is not known if Antivert passes into breast milk or not. Consult it with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby before starting using Antivert.
How should I take Antivert?
Antivert is to be taken as per the label indicates or as per prescribed by your doctor. Antivert should only be used according to the prescribed way. Do not take Antivert for a longer time than the given course. Antivert is not to be used in bigger amounts than the prescribed amount.
Antivert is to be taken along with a glass full of water. The chewable tablet can be swallowed whole, crushed or chewed.
To avoid motion sickness Advert should be taken 1 hour before travel or any activity causing motion sickness. If you travel regularly, Advert can be taken every 24 hours.
In vertigo treatment you might need to take Antivert several times in one day. You can ask your doctor about the dosage of Antivert.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Antivert is taken only when needed so a regular schedule might not be a must to follow. If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Get emergency medical attention if the patient takes too much Antivert.
Extreme Drowsiness can occur if the patient over doses this drug.
Antivert side effects
Emergency medical help should be sought f the patient faces any of the signs of an allergy. These include hives, breathing difficulty and the swelling of the face, throat and tongue.
Antivert also may cause:
- Blurred sight;
- Constipation;
- Dry mouth or
- Dizziness.
The patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Antivert then contact your doctor immediately.
Proper storage of Antivert
Antivert is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Antivert away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Antivert out of the reach of children and away from pets.
