What is Aphthasol?
Aphthasol is a drug containing amlexanox. It is in the form of an oral paste.
Uses
Aphthasol is used to treat canker sores. These sores are also called aphthous ulcers. These are present in the patient's mouth. Canker sores occur in people with normal immune system.
Aphthasol might be prescribed by your doctor for other diseases than those listed above. This might also be prescribed to be used along with any other drug. Consult with your doctor to find about why you have been prescribed this medicine.
Warnings
Aphthasol is not to be used if the patient is allergic to amlexanox. Before hand inform your doctor of any allergy to a drug or any food item. If you have a weak immune system inform your doctor which has been caused by any disease, medicine or cancer treatment. If you have a weak immune system your dosage might be adjusted or you might not be able to take Aphthasol.
It is not expected to cause any harm to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor about any future planned pregnancy. It is not known if Aphthasol passes into breast milk or not. Do not use it without informing you doctor that you are nursing.
How should I use Aphthasol?
For Aphthasol to perform perfectly start the dose on getting the symptoms of a canker sore. Aphthasol paste is normally applied 4 times a day. This is done after meals and at bed time. Apply Aphthasol after brushing your teeth for best application.
For canker sore clean the sore with a clean cloth before applying the medicine.
Wash your hands before and after you apply the paste. For the paste moisten the end of your finder and squeeze out the prescribed amount of the paste on your finger. Only application of the paste is required. Do not rub the paste on the sore.
Consult with your doctor if your symptoms do not get better with in 10 days.
What happens if I overdose?
Immediate emergency help should be sought if the patient uses too much of this drug. This is a precautionary measure and no serious life threatening effects are caused by the overdose of Aphthasol.
An overdose's symptoms include nausea and diarrhea.
Aphthasol side effects
Get immediate medical help if the patient is facing allergic side effects like hives, breathing difficulty and swelling of the face, throat and tongue. Serious side effects include skin rashes, new mouth ulcers and sores in your mouth. Inform your doctor about these as soon as possible.
Less serious effects include stinging of the skin on first application of the medicine.
The patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Aphthasol then contact your doctor immediately.
Proper storage of Aphthasol
Aphthasol is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Aphthasol away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Aphthasol out of the reach of children and away from pets.

What happens if I miss a dose?
If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
