General Information
Atarax is not advised to be used for more than 4 months. Your doctor must change your prescription periodically.
Uses
Atarax is used to reduce activity of the central nervous system. It is used as a sedative to treat tension and anxiety. It is also used in case of allergic skin reactions and also used in combination with other medicines given for anesthesia.
How to take?
Take Atarax the way it is advised by your doctor. Never take two doses at once. Have Atarax with a large class of water.
Treatment which begins with injections can be continued in the form of tablets. Older adults are given lower doses because of the risk of drowsiness.
Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor.
Warnings?
Atarax might cause drowsiness and slow your reactions. Any activity which requires alertness of the mind should be avoided during the course of Atarax. Operating machines and driving should be avoided.
Missed dose
In case of missing a dose, do not take 2 doses at the time of next dose. Just follow the regular schedule and continue with the prescribed dosage.
Side effects
Incase of experiencing any side effects or change in the intensity of current side effects contact your doctor as soon as possible. Atarax can cause drowsiness but it disappears in a few days. Other side effects which are caused by Atarax include dry mouth, twitches, tremors (uncontrolled shaking) and convulsions (seizures). Tremors and convulsions occur when Atarax is taken in higher than normal doses.
Storage advice
Store the tablets and syrup at room temperature. Keep it away from heat, light and moisture and don't let it freeze. Keep out of extreme temperatures. Keep out of reach of small children.
Overdose
Incase of an overdose, contact your doctor immediately. The symptom of an Atarax overdose is excessive calm. A drop in blood pressure can also be expected.
More information
Atarax should not be taken during pregnancy or during breastfeeding. Patients with kidney or liver disease should tell their doctors before taking the medicine. Use of alcohol should be avoided when taking Atarax. Alcohol can increase the intensity of the side effects.
