Carisoprodol is a medicine for relaxing the muscles.
Carisoprodol is available in pure form and is also sold with the brand names of Soma and Vanadom.
Uses
Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxed. It is used to treat wounds/injuries and other pain generating muscular conditions. It is to be used with rest and physical therapy in order to be properly effective.
You might be prescribed Carisoprodol for uses other than those listed above. It may also be given along with other medicines for some other disease too. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about the uses of Carisoprodol.
How take
Carisoprodol should only be used according to the prescribed way. Do not take Carisoprodol for a longer time than the given course. Carisoprodol is not to be used in bigger amounts than the prescribed amount.
Each dose should be taken with a glass of water. Full glass of water: 8 ounces of water.
Warnings
Carisoprodol is a medicine that may become a habit thus it should be used only as prescribed. A person with history of addiction/drug abuse should never be allowed to use it. Once you decide to leave it the symptoms of withdrawal are eminent. The medication should not be left suddenly; each dose should be decreased gradually. It may slow down reflexes. Do not share Carisoprodol with another person even if he shares the same symptoms as you.
A person allergic to porphyries should not take it as side effects may cause the allergy to increase or advance. Alcohol increases its side effects.
It is harmful to unborn baby. Its use should be discontinued in pregnancy. For age less then 12 years is not suitable. Carisoprodol also has effects on your thinking ability and reaction time. So do not drive or indulge in any activity which requires you to be active.
Side effects
Immediate emergency help should be called if difficulty in breathing, swelling on body parts occurs. Side effects such as paralysis, extreme weakness, seizure etc should be accounted for with extreme care. Less serious side effects may include depression,drowsiness,sleep problems, blurred vision etc.These side effects are the most likely to happen but the patient might face side effects other than those listed here. If any unusual symptom is caused by the use of Carisoprodol then contact your doctor immediately.
What happens if I overdose?
Emergency medical attention should be sought if the patient over uses this drug.
Over dosage can be reflected by:
- Shallow breathing;
- Vision Problems;
- Fast Heartbeat;
- Confusion;
- Hallucinations;
- Seizures And
- Muscle Stiffness.
Proper storage of Carisoprodol
Carisoprodol is to be stored at room temperature. Room temperature: 68 to 77 Degrees F or 20 to 25o C. It is to be kept in a tightly closed container. Keep Carisoprodol away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not place it in bathrooms. Keep Carisoprodol out of the reach of children and away from pets.

What happens if I miss a dose?
If the patient misses a dose then take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the scheduled next dose is near then skip the missed dose. Continue the rest of the course as usual. Do not take any other medicine to cover up the missed dose.
