Detrol General Information
Detrol is also known as Tolterodine Tablets, which is its generic name. Detrol is used to control and treat an overactive bladder; however a doctor may recommend it for other conditions as well.
Detrol Uses
The main use of Detrol is that it reduces urinary frequency, pressure and leakage by acting as an antimuscarinic agent. It reduces a bladder's abnormality to become overactive. Detrol does this by blocking a chemical which makes the bladder contract and thus controlling or lessening the spasms of the urinary bladder.
Your doctor may recommend Detrol as a medication for other conditions as well.
How to take Detrol
Detrol tablets are taken orally by swallowing it whole, with or without food. The tablet releases medicine gradually into the bloodstream. Never chew, crush or break open a capsule of Detrol. Consume it with care and as prescribed by your health provider. For best results, Detrol should be taken at the same time every day.
Detrol Warnings
It is warned that a patient should not consume Detrol if he/she is allergic to any ingredient in Detrol. If a patient suffers from conditions like urinary tract blockage, stomach or intestine blockage. Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma then he should not take this medication. Your dose might have to be adjusted or you may have to take special tests if you suffer from liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma or a history of Long QT syndrome.
Detrol Missed Dose
As soon as you remember that you have missed a dose you should take Detrol. If by the time you remember it is almost time for the next dose then skew
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Detrol Side Effects
You may experience slight drowsiness, fainted feeling, dizziness or blurred vision after taking Detrol. Intake of alcohol or certain medicines will worsen the effects so it is advised to avoid these things. Detrol is not recommended for children and is to be used with extra care and caution.
Some people may experience none, minor or severe side effects of Detrol
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Blurred vision; constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry eyes; dry mouth; headache; indigestion; stomach pain are signs of possible side effects and doctor should be contacted immediately if you feel this way.
Proper storage of Detrol
Detrol is to be stored at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). However you can store it between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) for a brief period. Keep Detrol away from heat, moisture, and light. Should never be kept in the bathroom. Children should be kept away from it.
Detrol Overdose
If you suspect that you have taken an overdose of Detrol you should rush to your doctor. Some of the signs of over dosage are difficulty breathing; difficulty urinating; dilated pupils; excitation; fast heartbeat; hallucinations; seizures.
