Motrin General Information
Motrin falls under a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Motrin, a drug, treats pain, inflammation, and fever. You can use this to get relief from pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthirtis. Physician may also prescribe this medicine for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.
Motrin Uses
You can use Motrin to reduce fever and general pain caused by conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or minor injury. You can use Motrin to treat different types of arthritis.
How Take Motrin
You must take Motrin as prescribed by physician. Recommended dosage is 3200 mg per day. You must take the liquid Motrin with a measuring spoon, whereas chew the chewable tablet before swallowing the same. Take Motrin with milk or meals in case you experience stomach upset.
Motrin Warnings
One should contact physician if one experiences blood in vomit, black or tarry stool. The most common reaction is gastrointestinal. You must not use Motrin during pregnancy, as Motrin may cause harm to fetus.
You should tell your physician about any of the following problems before taking this medicine:
- History of heart attack, stroke or blood clot
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- History of stomach ulcers
- Kidney or Liver disease
- Blood clotting disorder
- In case you smoke
Motrin Missed Dose
Never take extra dose in case you miss a dose. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. In case it is the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule.
Motrin Side Effects
Common side effects are:
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Heartburn
- Allergic reaction, muscle cramps, numbness
- Difficulty in breathing
- Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Chest pain
- Black or tarry stool
- Coughing up blood or vomit
- Fever
- Sore throat
- Red skin rash
- Urinating less than usual
- Rapid weight gain
- Jaundice
- Ulcers in mouth

Motrin Storage Advice
Motrin should be stored at room temperature (20 to 25 degrees C) away from heat and moisture. You must not allow liquid medicine to freeze.
Motrin Overdose
Overdose could cause nausea, vomiting, stomachache, black or tarry stools, coughing up blood, fainting, or come. Visit physician in case you have taken overdose.
Motrin More Information
You must avoid Motrin in case you have taken asprin. In case you have to take both medicines, then take Motrin 30 min after or 8 hours before you have taken asprin. You must not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. Alcohol can increase the risk of stomach.
You must never take this medicine in larger amounts or use the same for longer period than recommended. If you are taking the medicine for longer period, you must get yourself checked by the physician on regular basis to ensure that this medication is not causing any harm.
