Nexium General Information
Nexium is used to treat diseases affecting stomach, intestine, and esophagus. The Nexium is a pill purple in color with two or three golden rings. It is also known as "purple pill". This medicine decreases the acid in stomach.
Nexium Uses
Nexium treats number of conditions such as treatment of "gastro-esophageal reflux disease" or "GRED", prevention of stomach ulcers, treatment of erosive esophagitis, and treatment of pathological hypersecretory.
How Take Nexium
In case of:
- Severe GRED: 20 to 40mg/Day for Eight weeks
- Helicobacter pylori: 40mg/ day for 10 days
- Other: 20mg/day for Four to Eight weeks
Other instructions
Consume the medication as prescribed by your physician for the entire duration advised. Swallow the medicine whole, with a full glass of water and at least one hour before meal.
Depending on the case, the doctor may also prescribe another treatment course for a longer duration.
The pill is a designed to release the medicine slowly and in small amounts. Hence, it is advised not to crush, break, or open the capsule.
You can also create a mix of warm applesauce with the Nexium capsule contents (open the capsule for the same) and swallow the mixture.
Nexium is also given through a NG (nasogastric) feeding tube, by mixing the medicine with water and flushing it through the tube.
Nexium Warnings
Please inform your physician in case you are suffering or have had any of the following: Liver disease, Kidney problems, Food / chemical allergies
Also, inform in case you are: Pregnant, Breastfeeding, Taking Other medications.
Nexium Missed Dose
In case you have missed a prescribed dose, take the prescribed dose immediately, and then continue normally with the next prescribed dose at the next scheduled time.
Always refill your medicine dose before the same finishes in your stock.
Nexium Side Effects
If you start suffering from hives difficulty in breathing or see a swelling of your face lips, tongue, or throat, these are allergic reactions to the medicine. This requires immediate emergency action.
Some less serious side effects are as follows: Headaches, Stomach Pain, diarrhea, Dry Mouth, Constipation, Gas.

Nexium is usually stored out of reach of children in airtight containers at room temperatures. Ensure there is no moisture and heat.
Nexium Overdose
Overdose symptoms can vary from person to person. Each of them requires immediate medical help as some overdoses can lead to death. Most common overdose symptoms are: Confusion, Drowsiness, Blurred vision, Increased heart rate, Nausea, Headache, Dry mouth.
