Paxil General Information
Paxil is an anti-depressant drug generally prescribed for patients suffering from depression, and disorders like obsessive and compulsive disorder, and panic disorder.
It helps in improving mood related problems like anxiety and post-traumatic stress.
It comes in the form of tablets as well as liquids.
Paxil Uses
Paxil is generally used to treat some common brain related problems arising from depression, and mood related disorders viz. Panic disorders, Post-trauma stress, anxiety etc.
How Take Paxil
The dosage varies with age and medical condition being treated for.
Paxil is taken by mouth, usually once a day.
It is always advised to follow the dosage as prescribed by a physician
Swallow a Paxil pill whole, without breaking, crushing, or chewing it.
Liquid Paxil should be measured as advised and then consumed.
Paxil Warnings
Always consult your physician before consuming Paxil. Paxil is not advised in the following cases:
- Pregnancy or breast-feeding,
- Other medications,
- Allergies to medicines, and other substances,
- Family history of mood based disorders,
- Epilepsy or Seizures,
- Problems related to the heart, liver, kidney, stomach
Paxil Missed Dose
Missing a dose is not advised.
If however, one misses a dose of Paxil doctors advice on skipping the missed dose and taking the next one as prescribed.
Paxil Side Effects
Side effects could be any of the following:
Brain: Anxiety, nervousness, trouble concentrating, dizziness; drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, trouble sleeping, yawning, seizures
Behavior: Impulsiveness, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts or attempts, irritability, aggressiveness, hostility
Bowel: Constipation, diarrhea, gas, urination, black or bloody stools
Stomach: loss of appetite, stomach upset
Body: Sweating, rash, unusual skin sensations, itching, peeling skin, tremors
Breathing: fast or irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest
Paxil Storage Advice
Store Paxil in an airtight container at room temperatures of 20-25 degrees C, (68-77 degrees F), away from moisture and heat.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Paxil Overdose
Brain: Anxiety, dizziness, seizures, Confusion, Fainting , Coma
Behavior: Aggressiveness
Stomach: Nausea and vomiting
Body: Tremors, Liver problems, Muscle pain, muscle stiffness, Kidney failure
Heart: Rapid or slow heart rate, Irregular heart rhythm, High or Low BP, Death
Paxil More Information
Paxil usually takes at least four to six weeks for it to start working, before you notice any significant changes in mood.
Always keep your physician informed about any ill effects of the medicine.
Do not change the dose yourself.
The medicine may make you feel drowsy; it is advised that you take it before bedtime.
Do not drive under this medication.
Paxil should be taken at the same time each day as it helps maintaining an even level of the medication in your blood.
Do not stop taking the medicine on your own as it might lead to withdrawal symptoms e.g. return of depression.
Physicians normally take off this drug slowly and steadily by tapering the dosage.
