Prevacid General Information
As the name might suggest, Prevacid is a medicine to prevent Acid formation in the stomach.
This medicine is also used to treat other gastrointestinal problems caused by excess stomach acid and for gastric ulcers.
Prevacid Uses
Prevacid is primarily used to treat and prevent stomach and intestinal ailments including ulcers, esophagus infections from stomach acid, and other gastro-intestinal conditions.
How Take Prevacid
Always take medicines as directed by your physician. For Prevacid, keep the following things in mind while consuming the medicine:
The dosage varies with age and medical condition being treated for.
Prevacid is usually taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water.
Ensure that you take the medicine at the same time each day.
Dosage for children between the ages of 1 to 17, a Prevacid dose depends on the weight of the child.
A pediatrician should be consulted or dosing instructions
Other dosage for adults for the treatment of various ailments are as follows:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease: 15 mg one tablet every day for 8 weeks
- Erosive esophagitis: 30 mg one tablet every day for 8 weeks
- Duodenal ulcers: 15 mg one tablet every day for 4 weeks
Prevacid Warnings
Always consult your physician before consuming Prevacid.
It is not advised in the following cases:
- Pregnancy or breast-feeding
- Other medications
- Allergies to medicines, and other substances
- Gastro-intestinal problems including cancer
- Liver failure
- Prevacid Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as it is remembered, and then follow the normal schedule as advised. Do not double the dose unless the physician advises.

Internal: Known symptoms related to the internal body parts are: Abdominal and back pain, headache, nausea, constipation, dizziness, Chest pain, Stroke, High blood pressure, Fainting, Migraine, Heart attack, Impotence, Depression, Insomnia, Asthma, Middle ear infection, Urinary tract infection, inflammatory bowel disease.
External: Known external symptoms related to the internal body parts are: Diarrhea, vomiting, allergic skin reactions, Hair loss, Dry eyes, Weight gain, Weight loss, Nosebleed, Acne
Prevacid Storage Advice
It is advised to store Prevacid at room temperatures
There should be no moisture or heat in the room
It should be kept out of reach of children
Prevacid Overdose
No known cases have been reported for an overdose of Prevacid, however, in case of an uneasiness on taking extra medicines knowingly or unknowingly, it is better to consult your physician to take advise.

An unscheduled change in the dosage is not advised
Complete the entire planned or recommended dosage prescribed by the doctor
This medication should not be given to a child younger than 1 year old.
