Protopic General Information
Protopic is an ointment applied on skin, prescribed to treat eczema. Physician prescribes this ointment when other medicines have not worked. Eczema is allergy that causes irritated, red, and itchy skin.
Protopic Uses
You must never use this ointment for longer period than recommended by physician. This ointment must not be used for children of age 2 years or younger. You must use this medicine only on skin as prescribed by physician.
Ointment to be applied as follows:
Children below 16 years: Use 0.03% of ointment
Adults and children at least 16 years: Use 0.1% of ointment
How Take Protopic
Consult physician before using this medicine. You must wash your hands properly before applying thin layer of this medicine on affected areas. You must slowly rub the ointment on the skin. You must apply the ointment twice a day or as directed by physician. After applying the ointment, you must wash your hands properly.
Consult physician, in case you do not notice any improvement even after using the ointment for six weeks.
Protopic Warnings
Inform your physician, in case you have herpes, chicken pox, skin cancer, genetic skin disorder, AIDS, kidney disease, swelling, irritation on skin, or redness.
Inform physician in case you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Avoid your eyes, mouth, or inside of nose from this ointment. However, if the ointment gets into these areas, wash with water. This ointment should never be applied on the open wound. Once you have applied the ointment, do not swim or shower immediately. Also, avoid sunlight, tanning beds, or sun lamps. Do not drink alcohol while using the treatment with this ointment is going on.
While you are using this medicine, do not use any other skin product without consulting physician.
Protopic Missed Dose
Apply the ointment as soon as you remember that you have missed a dose. However, if it is time for next dose, then skip the missed dose. Never apply extra ointment to make up with the missed dose.
Protopic Side Effects
When you start applying the medicine initially, you may have burning, soreness, stinging, itching in the areas where you have applied the ointment.
Stop applying the ointment and consult physician in case you suffer from allergic reaction, hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of lips, face, tongue, glands, or throat, upset stomach, muscle or joint pain, headache, unusual tiredness, or chest pain.
In case you suffer from any other side effects not mentioned here, consult physician.
Protopic Storage Advice
Protopic ointment must be stored at room temperature at 25 degrees C. This ointment must not be stored in bathroom. You must keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Protopic Overdose
This ointment may prove to be harmful if swallowed by mistake. In case you have swallowed or applied overdose of the ointment immediately contact your physician.
Protopic More Information
You must never flush this ointment down the toilet. Expired ointment must be disposed of properly. This ointment should never be shared with others.
