Tramadol is a prescription drug, which acts almost like a narcotic and is used for pain relief in adults.

Although Tramadol is primarily licensed for treatment of moderate to severe pain, there could be other uses which are not known as of yet.
How Take Tramadol
The dosage varies with age and medical condition being treated.
The recommended dosage can range from 25 mg / day and increased in durations by 25 mg to be taken 4 times a day.
In some cases, the dose can also be increased by 50 mg / day for every three days to a dose of 50 mg to be taken 4 times a day.
For severe pain, the dosage can also go upto 100 mg every 4 to 6 hours a day. However, in this case the upper limit is put at a maximum total of 400 mg / day
Tramadol Warnings
Speak to the doctor in case you have had a history of any of the following: Liver disease Kidney disease, high inter-cranial pressure, Lung disease, Alcohol abuse, Seizures, Epilepsy, Severe abdominal (stomach) pain, dyes, head injury, allergies to foods, or preservatives
Also, take advice in case of pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Tramadol Missed Dose
In the event of missing a dose, immediately take the dose and continue as usual. However, in case you realize the miss near the next scheduled time, do not take the missed dose; take the regular one.
Never take double doses at one go.

Some commonly established and reported side effects: Nausea, convulsions, Dizziness, Constipation, spinning sensation (vertigo), Vomiting, loss of appetite, shallow breathing, Peeling skin rash, Weak pulse, Weakness, constipation, blurred vision, Drowsiness, Headaches, sleep problems , (insomnia), Flushing, blistering, tingly feeling, Warmth, or redness.

Tramadol Overdose
It has been reported that a Tramadol overdose can cause cardiac arrest or death. Hence, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention on seeing overdose symptoms. Some known symptoms are: cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, Fainting , or seizures, coma, Drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme , or weakness.

Tramadol is known to have properties of a narcotic and thus abruptly stopping this medicine has been reported to have "withdrawal" symptoms alike that in the case of drug abuse. Hence, proper care has to be taken when this treatment is underway. An overdose with this medicine will involve supportive care.
The treatment to an overdose starts by inducing a vomit and pumping the stomach of the overdose. It is important to monitor breathing and heart rate.
Withdrawal symptoms vary from case to case and can be either shakiness or hallucinations etc. Hence, it is advised that the increase and decrease of the dosage be done at a slow rate to minimize the risk of a withdrawal, which can get unpleasant.
