Ultram General Information
The chemical name of ultram (tramadol hydrochloride) is (±) cis-2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-1-(3-methoxyphenyr) cyclohexanol hydrochloride. The molecular weight of tramadol hydrochloride is 299.8. It is white in color, bitter in taste and has no odour. Tramadol hydrochloride is powder in form and is readily soluble in water and ethanol. The tablets of ultram have 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride and are whihe in color. Other ingredients in the tablets which are inactive include corn starch, lactose, titanium dioxide, polysorbate 80, wax, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol,hypromellose, magnessium stearte and sodium starch glycolate.
Ultram Uses
Ultram is used in case of moderate to severe pain in adults. It is not suitable for children.
How Take Ultram
Ultram should be started at 25mg/day with increments of 25mg in separate doses every 3 days to reach 100mg/day. Thereafter the dose can be increased by 50mg as tolerated every 3 days to reach 200mg. it is needed after every 4 or 6 hours but the maximum dose should be limited to 400mg/day.
Ultram Warnings
Ultram may cause seizures in patients who are taking SSRI antidepressants or TC antidepressants or any other opioids. Patients who are high at the risk of seizures such as patients with some serious head injury, metabolic disorders, or patients who are already taking medicines for alcohol and drug withdrawal can suffer seizures while using ultram. It can also cause allergic reactions such as hives, steven-johnson syndrome, pruritus, bronchospasm etc. It may affect our mental and physical abilities therefore it should not be taken while driving a car or operating some difficult machinery. It can also cause respiratory disorders.
Ultram Missed Dose
Ultram is a very strong painkiller and you should never try to double the prescribed dose even if you have missed your regular dose.
Ultram Side Effects
The side effects of ultram are nausea, lightheadedness, headache, weakness, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness and vomiting. One should increase the intake of high fiber foods and drink plenty of water while taking ultram. Some rare side effects of ultram are allergic reactions such as rashes or swelling, unusual restlessness, unexplained fever, mood changes, loss of coordination, difficulty in breathing etc.
Ultram Storage Advice
Ultram should be stored at 77 degree F (25 degree C) away from light and moisture. It should not be stored in bathroom and should be kept out of reach of pets and children.
Ultram Overdose
The overdose of ultram may prove really dangerous. The consequences of overdose of ultram may include seizures, coma, respiratory disorders, cardiac arrest, and lethargy and in some cases even death.
Ultram More Information
Ultram should not be given to the patients who are sensitive to termadol or some other ingredients of ultram. It is not suitable for children under16 years of age .care should also be taken in case of elderly people. It is also not suitable for pregnant ladies or nursing mothers.
