Valtrex General Information
Valtrex is known as an antiviral drug. It helps in lowering down the spread and growth of herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. It is important to note that valtrex can not eliminate the herpes virus but it helps body in fighting with the infection. Herpes virus can be passed from a pregnant lady to its child therefore medical advice should be taken to prevent genital herpes. However valtrex does not help in the prevention of genital herpes.
Valtrex Uses
Valtrex is used in fighting with the infections caused by herpes virus among children and adults. The infections caused by herpes virus are genital herpes, chickenpox, cold sores and shingles. Valtrex is used in the treatment of cold sores in children of at least 12 years of age and chickenpox in children of at least 2 years of age.
How Take Valtrex
Treatment with valtrex should be started immediately after the first symptom arises. It will not be as much effective if you start taking valtrex one or two days after the arise of first symptoms. It should be taken strongly according to the prescription. Each dose of valtrex should be taken with a full glass of water. Water intake should be increased while taking this drug to protect the kidneys. The oral suspension of valtrex should be measured with measuring cup to get the correct dose.
Valtrex Warnings
Valtrex is not recommended for the patients who are allergic to valacyclovir or acyclovir. Patients who are also suffering from HIV\AIDS or any other disease which can weaken the immune system, kidney problems or kidney or bone marrow transplant should inform their doctor before starting valtrex.
Valtrex Missed Dose
If some dose of valtrex is missed than it should be immediately taken as soon as it comes to knowledge. But if it is time for the second dose than it will be better to skip the dose. Never double the dose to make up for the missed dose.
Valtrex Side Effects
The side effects of valtrex include difficult breathing, weight gain, swelling, weakness, urinating less or not at all, red spots on skin, pale or yellow skin, fever, stuffy nose, bloody diarrhea, joint pain or pain in the lower back, mood changes, increased thirst, vomiting etc.
Valtrex Storage Advice
Valtrex comes both in tablet form and in liquid form. Valtrex tablets should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat whereas valtrex liquid should be stored in refrigerator, but it should not be freeze. Any dose of valtrex which is older than 28 days should be thrown away.
Valtrex Overdose
If there is overdose of valtrex than immediate medical help should be sought. The main symptom of overdose of valtrex is urinating less or not at all.

Valtrex do not help in the prevention of herpes virus. This virus is contagious and it can spread among other people even if you are taking valtrex. Therefore sexual contacts should be avoided .We should avoid touching the infected area nor should it come in contact with other people.
