Vermox General Information
Vermox is also called mebendazol. It is broad spectrum anthelmintic which is available in the form of chewable tablets. Each such chewable tablet contains 100 mg of mebandazol. The other ingredients of the vermox which are not so active are corn starch, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, hydrogenated vegetable oil, sodium saccharin, tetrarome orange, sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate and FD&C yellow no.6.
Mebandazole is white to slightly yellow in color and it is in powder form. It has molecular weight of 295.29. It is soluble in formic acid but not so soluble in water or alcohol or chloroform.
Vermox Uses
Vermox is used in the treatment of intestinal worm infections such as pin worm, hook worm and round worm. However the efficiency of vermox is different in different type of infections depending upon several circumstances. Vermox can also be used in cases of worm infections in other parts of the body but the difference is that you will need higher dose and for longer period of time.
How Take Vermox
Vermox comes in the form of chewable tablets. It is taken by mouth; you can either chew it or swallow it whole or crush it and mix it in food. It is all matter of choice. It can be taken with or without food. The dosage of vermox depends upon the medical condition of the patient and his response to the therapy.
Vermox Warnings
There is so far no evidence available that vermox is responsible for hydatid disease even if taken in high dose. But if it is taken at higher dose for a prolonged period of time than there are chances of neutropania and liver function elevations including hepatitis. It is not suitable for children below 2 years of age. Pregnant ladies and nursing mothers should consult their doctor before starting vermox. Once started the full course should be completed unless there are very chances of the infection reappearing.
Vermox Missed Dose
If you have missed some dose of vermox than you can take it as soon as you remember but if it is time for the second dose than take the usual dose. You should avoid doubling the dose to make up for the missed dose.
Vermox Side Effects
The common side effects of the drug vermox are diarrhea and abdominal pain. These occur in cases of massive infection and expulsion of worms. There may also be instance of stomach pain, vomiting, headache, dizziness or drowsiness.
Vermox Storage Advice
It should be stored at room temperature between 59-77 degree F (15-25 degreeC) away from light and moisture. It should not be stored in the bathroom. All medicines should be kept away from pets and children.
Vermox Overdose
In the case of overdose of vermox there may occur gastrointestinal problems which can last for a few hours. Vomiting should be induced immediately in such cases.

If you are taking some other medicines already then you should inform your doctor about it before starting vermox. If you have some allergy problem , anemia, liver disease or some intestinal problem then also you should tell your doctor about it.
