Zyban General Information
Zyban is a medicine that has been designed to help the smokers quit the habit without using any drug. Zyban comes in the form of a pill. It does not contain nicotine. It is available only by a prescription.

How Take Zyban
The treatment with Zyban is initiated while the patient is smoking. It takes around one week to achieve a steady state and gradually smoking is discontinued.
The recommended dosage is one, two or three daily doses. Dosage begins at 150mg/ day to a maximum of 300 mg/ day. You should keep an interval of 6-8 hours in between the subsequent doses.
Zyban Warnings
Zyban should be used cautiously with patients with psychiatric symptoms. These symptoms include:
- Changes in mood
- Psychosis, hallucinations,
- Aggression, anxiety or panic,
- Possible suicidal thoughts.
You must tell your doctor if you notice any new or worsening psychiatric symptoms. You must watch for these symptoms especially when the medicine is started or at the time of change of dosage.
Zyban Missed Dose
You must follow the directions which are there on the prescription label. You must take your medicine at regular intervals of time. You must not take the medicine more often than that directed by your doctor. Additionally you must also not suddenly stop taking your medicine.
You must strictly abide by your doctor's schedule of taking the medicine. If you happen to miss a dose, you must take the missed dose only if there is a gap of 4 hours to your next dose.
Zyban Side Effects
The common side effects that are associated with Zyban are the following:
- Agitation,
- Dry mouth,
- Insomnia, head ache, nausea
But these symptoms disappear after a few weeks.
The families of the patients watch out for any symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts.
Zyban Storage Advice
Zyban should be stored at room temperature (20 to 25 degrees C). It should be kept away from heat and moisture. Such medicines must also be kept away from the reach of the children.
Zyban Overdose
You should seek emergency medical aid if you feel you have used too much of this medicine or overdose symptoms appear. Following are the most common overdose symptoms:
- Hallucinations
- Seizures
- Fainting
- Rapid heart rate
- Fever
- Low blood pressure
- Muscle pain, and damage
- Breathing problems
- Coma

Zyban is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. You must avoid taking alcohol while you are on Zyban dosage. Zyban is also being used as an antidepressant. Zyban takes about 2-4 weeks to function properly.
